Well, if you were listening closely Monday night to the last 10 minutes of Blackpool vs Huddersfield, you’d have heard the refrain of “there’s only one Dean Hoyle” loud and clear from the Huddersfield fans.

I don’t wear football shirts anymore. I’m 25; I think they would make me look like one of the blokes out of the Jacamo advert. I feel like if I threw on my team’s shirt, I’d start using words like “banter” and “brap”. However, as a kid, when I got my team’s shirt, I always wanted my favourite player’s name and number of the back. If I had purchased my team’s new shirt at the start of this season, however, I would now be the owner of an obsolete “Rhodes 17” shirt. Yes, it finally happened. After an entire summer of batting away rumours, Jordan Rhodes finally left Huddersfield Town for Blackburn Rovers….no, seriously, Blackburn Rovers.

Life in League 1 – Just how good is Jordan Rhodes?

The phrase “hottest property outside the Premier League” is not one that is usually associated with a Huddersfield Town player. In my 20 years of watching my home town club, we have had a few very good strikers who have gone from us to play at a higher level; Iwan Roberts, Andy Booth, Marcus Stewart and Jon Stead. This season, however, everything has gone up a notch with Jordan Rhodes, the highest scorer in all the English Leagues. Scorer of five goals in one game. Scorer of four goals in one game. Scorer of numerous hat-tricks. League 1 player of the season. Huddersfield Town player of the season. To put it bluntly, he has had a pretty good season. All of this at just 22 years old.
