I’ll be the first to admit that I wasn’t enamoured with the appointment of Roberto Martinez as Everton manager. He may not have been my last choice, but he certainly wasn’t my first. His eloquence in press conferences and general likeablility are irrelevant if he can’t get the team playing. Fortunately, after a tame first few games, Everton are beginning to show what kind of the side they can be.

Matty, Joe and Hux guide across the World Cup qualifications as they come to a close around them, looking at who they want to see and who they are said to see not go to Brazil next year. We go from Argentina to Armenia, Brazil to Burkina Faso. Speaking of the latter, we talk about this rather antagonistic penalty celebration from Aristide Bance.

It’s almost as if he’s saying that penalty wasn’t a penalty? SURELY NOT.

Also, check Joe’s sick rhyming skillz at the end of the podcast.

However, his arrival in Munich brings with it an air of smugness amongst the rest of European football as Bayern are already top of the tree in Europe and by a long way; for Pep, the only way is down.

It happened again! On the last day of the League 1 season, Brentford had a penalty in the last minute to clinch promotion, which they missed, and then Doncaster went on the counter attack and scored to not only win promotion, but also the title. Cue viral YouTube clips of commentators, Soccer Saturday pundits and fans alike going suitably apoplectic.

So as you all know it’s that time of year again. Wigan, 18th position, looking to fight for their survival under Roberto Martinez, and with a bunch of targets to aim for. If they play like they know they can they could still get out of this dogfight, once again by the skin of their teeth.
