There was an extraordinary moment in the recent Man Utd v Liverpool game. Liverpool broke on the left and no fewer than three Liverpool forwards - namely Sturridge, Suarez and Borini - ran into the box and waited to attack the ball.

Okay, this isn’t quite going to trouble the pages of Fortean Times or have Derek Acorah running towards a production company, but it’s an unusual sight for Liverpool fans this season. Three strikers after a paucity in recent months is a cause for optimism.

The Hillsborough Disaster: A Ruling For The Good Of Us All

Given the findings of the Hillsborough Independent Panel and the actions of the Attorney General, the quashing of the initial Hillsborough coroner’s verdict was expected in some quarters, but it still sends shockwaves through several strands of British society. When the Lord Chief Justice ruled that the verdict of accidental death - a judgement made in March 1991 - is no longer tenable, he finally gave the families of the dead some hope after 23 long years of pain but the recriminations of that ruling go far and beyond that.

Rafael Benitez, Chelsea and Liverpool: The Unwanted Alliance

It’s the unholy alliance neither club wants. The litany of players and staff who have been involved with both clubs in recent years is impressive. Joe Cole, Glen Johnson, Raul Meireles, Yossi Benayoun, Fernando Torres, Nicolas Anelka and Steve Clarke have now been joined by Rafael Benitez and Boudewijn Zenden as men who have represented both Liverpool and Chelsea.

On Wednesday 12th September, an independent panel pointed the finger at the government, the police and their media cabana boys who, through a revolting process of misdirection and mud-slinging, told those who didn’t want to dig too deep that the fans were to blame for the ninety six deaths at Hillsborough. 165 documents were found to be altered in favour of the South Yorkshire Police. The fans were exonerated in the original Taylor Report but mud sticks and those responsible with finally be brought to book.

The poor signings, the poorer League form and the shocking PR are no more. Brendan wears the rose of youth upon him and is charged with leading us back into the limelight.
